Nerf War – Do You Have What it Takes to Survive?

Ever wonder what a Nerf War was? A lot of active hobbyists have tried this at one time or another. In a nutshell, it’s about 2 teams going head-to-head to wipe each other out in a wave or foam darts, bullets, missiles, grenades, and what have you. Although it’s not as mainstream as paintball or airsoft, it offers the same thrill; at a cheaper price and a safer degree. The weapons are colorful and have fun-ness oozing from their barrels. This is great way to just have clean, safe fun. A great alternative if you’re not looking for the realism offered by more “serious” combat simulator hobbies such as airsoft.

Players have a variety of game modes to choose from. Ranging from the very common Deathmatch mode to more tactical oriented modes such as Capture The Flag and Assassin. A recent mode added is Humans vs. Zombies; ever wonder what it would be like to try and survive a zombie infestation? Here’s your chance. Players are divided into two teams, humans and zombies (duh). And you’ve probably watched enough zombie movies to get the rest of the idea. The zombie team tries to catch the human team and convert them to zombies, at which point they win. The human team tries to get to wipe out the infestation. In all cases, you'll need a nerf arsenal to survive. Not as realistic as airsoft scenarios, but probably more fun.

The great thing about Nerf Wars is that they can be spontaneous. If you’re at work, all you have to do is pull a nerf gun out of your drawer and let the foam fly. Soon, nerf guns have emerged from nowhere and all foamy hell has broken lose. If you're unprepared with you own nerf weaponry, hide in your  cubicle and hope no one spots you. Or, you can pick up a fallen friend’s weapon and aim it for your boss who’s busy defending his office from a swarm of soldiers from the sales department. Your call.

THE OFFICE NERF WAR

On a more serious (but not too much) note, there are also sanctioned nerf tournaments that are held ala airsoft. From intercity leagues to nationwide championships, Nerf N-Strike enthusiasts from all over compete to see who’s the best. These teams come complete with modified nerf guns, nerf swords, nerf body armor, and yes- nerf grenades. Most of these tournaments are even sanctioned by official nerf organizations such as the Nerf Internet Community (NIC). Yes, connect to nerfers everywhere and get ready for the nerf war.
